China acts on funeral strippers
Chinese villages are being told to end the practice
Five people have been detained in China for running striptease send-offs at funerals, state media say.
The once-common events are held to boost the number of mourners, as large crowds are seen as a mark of honour.
But the arrests, in the eastern province of Jiangsu, could signal the end of the rural tradition.
Local officials have since ordered a halt to "obscene performances" and say funeral plans have to be submitted in advance, Xinhua news agency said.
The arrests, in Donghai county, followed striptease acts at a farmer's funeral, the agency said.
Two hundred people were said to have attended the event, which was held on 16 August.
The Beijing News said the event was later revealed by a Chinese TV station. The leaders of five striptease troupes were held, it said, including two involved in the farmer's funeral.
"Striptease used to be a common practice at funerals in Donghai's rural areas to allure viewers," Xinhua agency said.
"Local villagers believe that the more people who attend the funeral, the more the dead person is honoured."
As well as ordering an end to the practice, officials have also said residents can report "funeral misdeeds" on a hotline, earning a reward for information.

from an Agence France - Presse report
PRAGUE- An interactive internet game developed to teach young Czechs the history of one of the worst Second World War German atrocities in the country has been withdrawn following uproar over its content. The interactive Internet site invited visitors "to burn down Lidice in the shortest possible time" and awarded points for Czechs killed.
A little background; At Lidice, on the outskirts of Prague, the Nazis shot 192 men over the age of 16, deported 196 women to one concentration camp and their children, (105) to another camp. The Nazis were taking revenge for the assassination of a top Nazi, (I feel no need to print his name).
It's a funny old world.

...it's like rain on your wedding day...
Outraged by new pope's comments suggesting that their prophet encouraged violence, muslims fire bombed churches and killed a nun. Now that's a black fly in the old chardonnay.

the muslims are pissed again...
...but this time you have to admit, their anger is somewhat justified. The new pope quoted a 14th century Byzantine emporor calling islam evil and inhuman. If you read the actual quote, it's not all that outragous, considering it was taken out of the context of a 14th century theological debate. I think that's new pope's problem, just like old pope, he's trying to deal with modern problems by looking backward, CONTEMPORIZE MAN! Ya, I know the whole christian/muslim thing has been around for almost 2000 years, but there are social and political issues at the core of this dispute that our modern eyes can clearly see. (unless you're part of the Bush administration) so say you're sorry, new pope and in the future try not to quote someone who's point is basicaly, "your religion lacks validity, so shut up" and remember to generaly watch what you say, I think you and your christianity are shit but there are people out there who think you represent me. And to the muslims, two things, as always, lighten up for fuck sakes, and your pope effigies sucked, I know you're just going to burn them anyway, but come on, a paper bag for a hat? people all over the world are going to see that, put in a little effort.

does this scare you?
An hasidic jew was removed from an air canada flight for praying.
The man was making other people uncomfortable with his "rocking and praying." As most of you know, I hate all religion but I think Air Canada went too far.
I think praying in public is equivalent to masterbating in public (not cool) but most people in Canada have no problem with the practice, it's just that this guy had a beard and a funny hat.
Was this a plane load of Albertans?
